Winter Mode on Plastic Windows

Did you ever wonder why your lovely double-glazed windows are a bit draughty in winter? There are many reasons why your windows are draughty. One of those reasons can be the setting of your window. Did you know there is a winter mode on plastic windows?

Plastic windows have the following modes:

  1. Standard Mode – provides optimal fit of the window casement. Plastic windows come with this setting after installation. The pin (eccentric) in in central position.
  2. Winter Mode – the dash on the pin is turned towards the room. This setting provides a very close and tight fit.
  3. Summer Mode – the dash on the pin is turned towards the street. Your window allows a steady flow of fresh air.

Adjusting plastic windows is quite easy to do and does not require a handyman. All you need is a four-sided key. Some windows require the use of a key with an oval recess. A screwdriver and a pair of pliers may come in handy as well.

How to adjust your window mode

  1. Locate all of the pins – you will have to change the mode on all of them
  2. Using your tool, turn the pin 180 degrees until the dash on the pin is facing ether the street or the room.
  3. You may have to re-lubricate the moving parts to ensure your window works smoothly.
  4. Job done! Enjoy your window setting, be it winter or summer.
